Delaware State Police investigate fatal shooting during robbery at New Castle motel

NEW CASTLE, Del. According to Delaware State Police, a robbery at the Budget Inn’s back parking lot on Sunday night resulted in the death of a 49-year-old Wilmington man who was shot and killed.

At at 8:21 p.m., troopers were called to the Budget Inn, which is situated at 3 Memorial Drive, in response to a shooting incident. After being discovered with a gunshot wound in the parking lot, the victim was taken to a local hospital and declared dead. Until his family is notified, his identity is being kept secret.

The first investigation indicates that the gunshot happened during a heist that involved an unidentified suspect. The suspect’s description has not yet been made public.
