Domestic Incident Interrupted by Gunfire in Utica

Utica, NY – On Friday at approximately 5:15 a.m., Utica Police responded to an incident on the 1400 block of Miller Street, investigating reports of shots fired. A man and a woman informed officers that the woman’s ex-boyfriend had initiated an argument at her residence.

As another male arrived, the suspect approached his vehicle, knocked on the window, and fired two shots, missing the driver. The victim then left the scene, contacted 911, and later returned.

Following the incident, a criminal investigator was assigned to locate the suspect. The suspect’s vehicle was identified and towed for further investigation. Since the suspect was not found initially, the NY/NJ US Marshal’s Regional Taskforce was engaged in his apprehension efforts.

By Wednesday, the task force learned that the suspect was on the 200 block of Pleasant Street. Law enforcement, including METRO SWAT and Utica Police, negotiated with the suspect for approximately 30 minutes before he surrendered without incident. A search at the location uncovered a loaded 9mm handgun and narcotics.

The investigation concluded with the arrest of 42-year-old Tirso Deleon.
