Driver charged with DUI in Edison crash that left two in critical condition

EDISON NJ Authorities are looking into a violent collision in Edison that left two people critically hurt and led to one of the drivers being charged with assault and DUI.

At around 1:32 a.m. on Thursday, the collision happened at the junction of Parsonage Road and Route 1 North. Two cars were discovered at the location by responding authorities. One of them contained Diego Mejia, 39, of Edison, his wife, Jessica Naranjo, 35, of Woodbridge, and Mejia’s daughter, age 15. While Naranjo and the youngster were badly injured and are still in the hospital in a life-threatening state, Mejia suffered severe but stable injuries.

Alyssa Figueredo, 31, of Cranford, was the driver of the second car. She was sent to JFK Medical Center for treatment after suffering minor injuries.

According to an investigation conducted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Edison Police Department, Figueredo struck Mejia’s car after running a red light. Three counts of third-degree assault by automobile, driving under the influence, and other traffic infractions have been brought against Figueredo.
