Gathersburg, Maryland.In relation to a pedestrian collision that killed a WSSC Water employee who was working along New Hampshire Avenue earlier this year, a Silver Spring lady has been placed under arrest.
When Dori Campbell, 35, struck and killed Ernest Joseph Dyson, 39, of Clinton, on September 8, she was operating a black 2011 Volkswagen CC southbound on New Hampshire Avenue. Dyson was doing utility work when the crash happened at approximately 4:40 a.m. close to the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Rodney Road.
According to police, Campbell had a blood alcohol percentage of 0.19, more than twice the legal limit, and was driving at 50 mph in a 40 mph zone. A half-empty bottle of alcohol was also discovered by investigators in her car’s front passenger seat.
Emergency personnel declared Dyson deceased at the site. Authorities claim that at the time of the collision, Campbell was operating an uninsured vehicle and driving with a suspended out-of-state license.
Campbell was arrested on Monday and charged with several charges, including driving with a suspended license, negligent homicide by vehicle while intoxicated, and negligent manslaughter by vehicle. She is awaiting a bond hearing while being detained at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
