Dumfries man arrested in April road rage firearm brandishing incident

DUMFRIES, Va. — A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a road rage incident in April during which he allegedly brandished a firearm at another driver in Dumfries, police announced.

The suspect, identified as Alex Coleman of Dumfries, was taken into custody on October 22 by Arlington County police. Coleman faces charges of brandishing a firearm stemming from the April 26 incident at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Dumfries Road.

According to the police investigation, the incident began around 4:54 p.m. on April 26, when a 34-year-old man was involved in a road rage encounter with the driver of a white BMW. When both vehicles stopped at the intersection, the drivers reportedly engaged in a verbal altercation. During the exchange, the BMW’s driver exited his vehicle and brandished a firearm. The victim remained in his vehicle, and the encounter ended without any shots being fired or injuries reported.

Police later identified Coleman as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Coleman was apprehended nearly six months after the incident, following investigative efforts by local authorities.

Coleman is scheduled to appear in court on November 8.
