NORTH BERGEN, NJ The North Bergen Police Department verified that a dump truck collision on Tonnelle Avenue Friday afternoon resulted in a significant traffic closure and six injuries.
A dump truck heading west on 71st Street swerved into Tonnelle Avenue’s southbound lanes at approximately 4:00 p.m., colliding with a tractor-trailer before driving into the Target store.
Six people were hurt in the collision, according to the police. There were two victims with moderate injuries, two with mild injuries, and two with critical injuries. Hospitals in the area are treating five of the six patients.
Tonnelle Avenue between 70th and 76th Street is still closed in both directions as of Friday night while investigators work to clear the area.
Officials have not yet disclosed any new information regarding possible charges or contributing causes in the crash, which is still being investigated.
As emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the incident caused major traffic problems in the surrounding area.
