New Jersey’s Florham Park.In an effort to discourage driving while intoxicated and inattentive, law officers will set up a combined Driving While Intoxicated checkpoint in Florham Park from June 27 to June 29.
Together with the Florham Park Police Department, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is spearheading the operation. The event is being held in honor of Tim and Bridget O’Donnell, a father and daughter who were killed in a previous collision by a driver.
In announcing the checkpoint, police said, “Unfortunately, drunk and impaired driving continue to pose a serious threat and harm to our citizens.”
In order to raise awareness of the dangers of driving while intoxicated and distracted, Pam O’Donnell, who lost her husband and daughter in the collision, has spearheaded a public awareness campaign. The initiative has impacted law enforcement’s ongoing dedication to these checkpoints around the county.
Continuous countywide initiatives
Through subsidies from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, the checkpoint is a component of a larger strategy. Similar operations are carried out around the county by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office in collaboration with nearby police units.
The purpose of these sobriety checkpoints, according to authorities, is to deter dangerous driving practices before they cause harm or death. They are also instructive.
Previous operations have been conducted in a number of Morris County communities, and officials have confirmed that more checkpoints would be added with prior notice.
