Students in St Pete College ceramics class have been throwing clay and their teachers are thrilled! For the fourth year in a row, local artists, St. Pete College and Highwater Clay have teamed up to put their ceramics skills to work for a great cause.
Handmade and donated by local artists, hundreds of bowls are available for attendees to choose from during the event that benefits RCS Pinellas. After selecting your bowl, you’ll be treated to a delicious lunch of soup, bread and dessert from local restaurants.
RCS Pinellas serves hurting families in Pinellas County. In 2018, RCS served 60,000 individuals in their food bank. Additionally, they provided 740,000 lbs of fresh produce while supplying 2.75 million lbs of food directly to agencies in the area. 100% of the proceeds from Empty Bowls will go directly to support the programs of RCS. Your $20 donation will provide 20 meals for hungry children and adults in our community.
Started in 1990, Empty Bowls was the brain-child of a high-school teacher in Michigan. Developed as a fund-raiser to combat hunger, the bowls would serve as a reminder of the hunger crisis that people face every day. The program has evolved into a charitable organization that has raised millions to fight hunger in local communities.
If you attend Empty Bowls, you’ll find yourself walking between rows of tables covered in beautiful ceramic bowls of all styles and sizes. You’ll pick up a bowl here, then spot another on a different table that you like, so you’ll grab that one too. Before you know it, you’ll have a collection of bowls in front of you that you’ll (unsuccessfully) try to whittle down to your favorite one. Then you’ll remember: you can purchase more than one bowl, and the holiday season is right around the corner! A handmade piece of art that supports a great cause makes a wonderful gift.
Empty Bowls will take place on November 2, 2019 from 11 AM – 2 PM at the St Pete College – Clearwater Campus Room ES-104. Ticket prices are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
