Elderly Georgia woman killed by Amazon driver in alleged hit-and-run near family cemetery




CANTON, GA. Authorities said that an Amazon delivery driver allegedly resumed his route after striking and killing a 79-year-old woman who was crossing the roadway near a cemetery where she was paying homage to departed family members.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Sandra Fitts, a former local resident, passed away on Friday close to the intersection of Bishop Drive. London Rozier Best, 25, is accused with hit-and-run resulting in death and first-degree vehicular homicide.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, deputies looking into the collision saw an Amazon delivery truck nearby and called other authorities to look for the car. A local police officer soon found a truck with damage that was consistent with the deadly incident.

According to the sheriff’s office’s report, the investigation showed that the pedestrian was struck by the Amazon truck in question.

Despite having recently moved out of the neighborhood, Fitts and her husband frequently visited their family’s graveyard. Fitts was a regular visitor to the cemetery, where she tended graves and took care of stray cats, according to local media.
