Electric Car Crash Claims Two Lives in New York after Driver Lost Control, Vehicle Explodes on Impact with Building

Two people were murdered and charred “beyond recognition” when the driver of an electric car jumped a curb and crashed into an apartment building in White Plains on Monday, according to police.

At around 9:10 a.m., the driver of a vehicle, thought to be a Tesla, lost control and swerved onto a sidewalk before colliding with a tree and slamming into a building on Battle Avenue, according to David Chong, White Plains’ public safety commissioner.

Chong said the car “exploded” and caused severe fire damage to the building as reported by The New York Post.

According to authorities, responding officers and firefighters extricated the burnt automobile from the building. The two persons inside the car were found dead and “burned beyond recognition,” according to police.

EMS evaluated and released two more occupants from the building due to undisclosed injuries. A bystander walking by the site was injured by shrapnel from the incident and was brought to a local hospital, according to authorities.

As of Monday afternoon, police had not identified anyone involved in the accident.
