FAA expands drone restrictions across more New Jersey towns

New Jersey’s Atlantic Highlands. With new regulations in place through January 18, 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has extended interim limits on drone flights in a number of New Jersey locations.

Originally announced earlier this month, the restrictions add new boundaries to areas in Gloucester, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, and Union counties, and they forbid the majority of drone activity in almost two dozen towns and municipalities.

Among the recently restricted areas are:

  • Gloucester County:

    Paulsboro, Westville

  • Hudson County:

    South Kearny

  • Middlesex County:

    Port Reading

  • Monmouth County:

Atlantic Highlands, Belford, Fort Hancock, Highlands

  • Union County:

    Linden

Although the FAA has not made public the precise justifications for the increased limitations, these kinds of actions are usually taken in response to operational, security, or safety concerns.

Unauthorized drone flights are subject to the ban, which went into effect on Monday and will last until January 18.
