FBI Investigating Large Drone Sightings Near New Jersey Army Weapons Manufacturing and Storage Depot

New Jersey’s Morristown. Following repeated reports of large commercial drones operating near the Picatinny Arsenal, state and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as Morris and Somerset County law enforcement officials, are urging the public to report drone sightings.

Officials, including Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald and Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, recognized public concerns about the activity in a joint statement released on Sunday. They pointed out that some of the drones in question are apparently the size of a small automobile, which is much larger than the usual recreational models.

President Donald Trump’s Bedminster Golf Course was immediately placed under a no-drone zone in response to the sightings.

According to the statement, these instances are being closely monitored and investigated by our local police departments in collaboration with the FBI-Newark, New Jersey State Police, and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. Although the activity is concerning given its close proximity to the Picatinny Arsenal, officials stressed that there isn’t presently any known threat to public safety.

The U.S. Army facility known as the Picatinny Arsenal, situated in Morris County, New Jersey, is dedicated to the study, creation, and production of cutting-edge weaponry and ammunition. The plant, which covers over 6,400 acres, is essential to providing the country’s military with advanced weapons such as precision-guided guns, small arms, and explosives.

The U.S. Army Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARDEC) is housed within the arsenal, which was founded in 1880 and has since developed into one of the country’s leading defense research facilities. Thousands of military troops, civilian engineers, and scientists are based there, developing cutting-edge defensive technologies.

The site is sensitive due to its high-security initiatives and its proximity to densely inhabited areas. This explains why local and federal authorities are becoming increasingly concerned after hearing allegations of big drone activity close to the site.

In order to keep American soldiers technologically superior on the battlefield, the arsenal’s operations center on creating and testing new weapons and technology. Its significance in the country’s defense architecture is further cemented by the fact that it acts as a center for cooperation with defense contractors and allies.

Residents who have information on the drone sightings are being asked by the FBI to report it online at tips.fbi.gov or by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI. Users can also post footage of drone activity on the website.

While discussing the activity’s possible security ramifications, authorities reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring public safety. According to the statement, we will continue to take these allegations very seriously.
