Lee County, FloridaEarly on December 8, 2024, a Florida man was accused of threatening a resident in Cape Coral with a sword and a Molotov cocktail, leading to charges of arson. Around two in the morning, police were called to a disturbance in the 2800 block of SE 8th Avenue. The victim said that she had had a terrifying interaction with the suspect, Luis Vargas Izquierdo, 36.
Vargas Izquierdo allegedly confronted the victim outside his house while brandishing a cloth-wrapped glass bottle that he said was a Molotov cocktail. The suspect allegedly threatened to burn a car parked in the driveway on fire by hurling the bottle at it.
Vargas Izquierdo allegedly carried a sword in addition to the bottle, which he tapped on the car’s windshield while threatening people.
The victim’s Ring doorbell camera recorded the entire episode, which provided vital evidence for the investigation.
Vargas Izquierdo was apprehended without incident when officers swiftly located him at his neighboring home. Police verified that there was a little amount of gasoline in the glass bottle he was carrying.
Vargas Izquierdo reportedly informed detectives during questioning that he had gone to the victim’s house to deliver a message about disrespecting a family member. He went on to say that he brought the sword and the Molotov cocktail to make a point.
Vargas Izquierdo was charged with a third-degree crime, arson firebomb, and was taken to the Lee County Jail.
