Florida Man Shot, Killed After Brandishing Rifle Near Yard



Marianna, FL – A Florida man died early Monday after Jackson County deputies shot him during a confrontation on Wonder Road. The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m., when deputies responded to a report of a suspicious man walking near a yard with a rifle.

Three deputies arrived at the scene and attempted to calm the situation, initially using less-lethal methods. According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect then raised his rifle at the deputies, prompting them to use deadly force in self-defense.

Deputies quickly performed life-saving measures, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured during the encounter.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has assumed control of the investigation, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings. The FDLE will review evidence to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
