Florida man sues Netflix over streaming failures during Tyson-Paul fight

Miami, Florida.A Florida man has sued Netflix, claiming that the streaming service experienced widespread buffering and streaming issues during last Friday night’s eagerly awaited bout between YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

Ronald Blue Dalton filed the case on Monday, a few days after Paul, 27, won an eight-round exhibition fight against Tyson, 58, by unanimous decision. Many fans were irritated when technical issues interrupted the streaming experience of the event, which was promoted as a blockbuster showdown.

Netflix is accused in the case of improperly managing the fight’s digital distribution, which reportedly drew record-breaking viewership. According to the complaint, the most anticipated bout in boxing history ended up being a record night—not for the fight or fights, but for the money that Netflix embezzled.

Paul’s copromoter and cofounder of Most Valuable Promotions, Nakisa Bidarian, recognized the streaming problems but presented them as evidence of the event’s success. Bidarian emphasized the extraordinary demand, which apparently exceeded the U.S. streaming record of 23 million concurrent watchers, saying, “I think, first and foremost, we broke the internet.”

According to the lawsuit, Netflix acknowledged that it encountered numerous technical difficulties throughout the event but asserted that its efforts to control the stream were excellent. However, more than 100,000 online complaints from irate fans who encountered lagging, problems, or complete inaccessibility throughout the fight are cited in Dalton’s complaint.

The event is being marketed as the biggest digital distribution for combat sports and was also sent to more than 6,000 clubs and restaurants around the country. The lawsuit adds to the growing critique of Netflix’s live event handling capabilities.

Netflix is facing legal issues as a result of streaming issues during a major fight, and irate viewers are calling for accountability.
