Four charged in June fatal shooting outside District Heights business

MD’s District HeightsPrince George’s County Police said that four people, including two adolescents, have been charged in relation to a shooting outside a store in District Heights in June that killed a 19-year-old man and wounded two others.

Anthony Ward III, 19, of Upper Marlboro, was shot and killed by the suspects, who are described as Michael Zion Jones, 19, of Brandywine; Jacorey White, 19, of Capitol Heights; a 16-year-old boy from Hyattsville; and a 17-year-old boy from Fort Washington. Adult charges are being brought against both minor suspects.

According to the police, the shooting happened on the 5400 block of Marlboro Pike on June 10, 2024, at around 3:15 p.m. Ward was declared dead at the scene after officers arrived and discovered him with gunshot wounds. Two more patients were treated for non-life-threatening injuries: an adult female and an adult man.

Investigators said the perpetrators and victims knew each other, and the shooting was the result of an ongoing argument.

Charges include first- and second-degree murder, attempted first- and second-degree murder, and other associated offenses against all four accused. They are still being held without bond by the Department of Corrections.
