FREEPORT, N.Y.

— A lucky lottery player in Freeport is holding a ticket worth $31,152.50 after hitting the top prize in the New York Lottery’s May 27 Take 5 evening drawing.

The winning ticket was sold at ANAYA 223, located at 223 W. Merrick Road. It was the only ticket to match all five numbers drawn Tuesday night.

Take 5 is drawn twice daily, at 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., with numbers selected from a pool of 1 through 39. Winners have up to one year from the draw date to claim their prize.

The identity of the prize winner has not yet been made public, and lottery officials have not indicated whether the ticket has been redeemed.

Retailers that sell top-prize winning tickets often see an increase in foot traffic following major wins. The Freeport store has not released a statement but now joins a growing list of New York vendors linked to recent winning draws.

The New York Lottery contributed $3.8 billion to public education in the most recent fiscal year, with a portion of all ticket sales supporting schools across the state.

Players are encouraged to check their tickets and sign the back immediately to secure winnings.
