Freeport woman charged in $130,000 welfare fraud and insurance scam

MINEOLA, N.Y.According to Nassau County prosecutors, a Freeport lady has been charged with committing insurance fraud by fabricating her residence to avoid paying higher premiums and scamming public assistance programs of almost $130,000.

Angelique White, 32, was charged with several felonies, including second-degree grand larceny, second-degree welfare fraud, third-degree grand larceny, third-degree welfare fraud, and third-degree insurance fraud, when she was arraigned before Judge Robert Pipia on Thursday. White was freed on her own recognizance after entering a not guilty plea. Her next court appearance is set for January 16, 2025. She could spend up to 15 years behind bars if found guilty.

White allegedly failed to disclose her work income from Northwell Health and the U.S. Postal Service, as well as rental income from two houses she co-owned in Elmont and Freeport, resulting in the collection of $92,730 in Medicaid benefits and $39,771 in childcare benefits between 2017 and 2021.

According to a statement from Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly, the defendant allegedly scammed public assistance programs of over $130,000 over a number of years while keeping thousands of dollars in rental payments and earnings from many employment.

In a different plot, White is charged with providing Geico with fictitious paperwork indicating she resided in Oswego, New York, in order to evade paying higher insurance rates. She allegedly supported her claim with phony phone bills, paystubs, and utility bills, according to the prosecution. She consequently underpaid her auto insurance premiums by more than $11,000.

After the Nassau County Department of Social Services conducted an investigation, White turned himself up to the police on January 9, 2025.
