GAINESVILLE, Virginia Following a domestic altercation that injured a woman and raised questions regarding the welfare of three small children in the home, a 63-year-old Gainesville man was taken into custody early on Thursday morning.
At 1:02 a.m. on November 30, Prince William County police were called to a residence in the 14200 block of Clatterbuck Loop in response to a report of a domestic dispute. Investigators discovered that a verbal altercation between the accused, Eduard Mendez Ugarte, and a 57-year-old woman had turned violent.
The victim struck a nightstand and passed out after the accused shoved her out of a bed during the assault. At the time, there were three youngsters in the bedroom, all less than ten. Emergency services were contacted by one of the kids.
Ugarte was found to be inebriated and incapable of providing proper care for the children. After being taken to a nearby hospital, the victim received treatment for non-life-threatening wounds.
After the inquiry, Ugarte was taken into custody and charged with two charges of breaking a protective order, three counts of child maltreatment, domestic assault and battery, and malicious injury. A court date is still pending, and he is being held without bond.
