Gaithersburg woman convicted of murdering boyfriend in fatal stabbing

Maryland’s Montgomery County Officials said Friday that a woman from Gaithersburg had been found guilty of killing her 20-year-old boyfriend by stabbing him to death during a 2023 fight.

A grand jury found 22-year-old Jennifer Espinoza-Orellana guilty of killing Jose Manuel Zavala Marquez. The jury debated for ninety minutes before issuing a guilty judgment, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Espinoza-Orellana and Marquez got into a fight at her house in the 8000 block of Shady Spring Drive on September 10, 2023, which resulted in the deadly incident. According to investigators, she followed Marquez outdoors before using a kitchen knife to stab him in the chest, piercing his heart.

After driving Marquez’s body to a family member’s house following the stabbing, Espinoza-Orellana waited for at least four hours before bringing him to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, where he was declared dead.

Espinoza-Orellana is set for sentencing on April 4, 2025, and faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in jail. The case’s terrible conclusion and unsettling aspects have garnered a lot of attention.
