Get a Healthy Charcuterie…for Your Dog!

When you get home, do you have a welcoming committee in the form of a cuddly canine? Someone that gives you unconditional love, happy wags and unlimited snuggles?

A new venture aims to help such people give back to their furry friends with personalized charcuterie boxes of healthy treats.

Creator and owner Abby Harr started her business in March 2021. She explained, “While attending an International Women’s Day event in March 2021 at 9th Bar Coffee and Cueni Brewing, I was inspired by all the women lead businesses and entrepreneurs I met. An idea sparked for what is now Pupnic Baskets, charcuterie boxes for dogs!”

Abby has lived in Dunedin since 2014, but been a lover of cheese and dogs since 1986.

“My husband Matt and I adopted our first dog Annie in May 2020 from the Suncoast Animal League,” she said. “I’ve been making her little charcuterie type plates for her meals using chicken, fresh fruits and veggies and kibble or small amounts of treats. Matt and I also love making charcuterie for ourselves.”

Matt helps with the website and at markets, but right now, Abby works entirely on her own with the Pupnic Baskets.

The doggy charcuteries provide your best buddy with a unique snacking experience. Abby uses all-natural ingredients that your pup will love – so much so that you’ll be tempted to snack on too!

Whether it’s for a special occasion like a birthday, a Gotcha Day, a holiday or just a random Saturday and your dog is looking especially cute, Pupnic Baskets are perfect boxes of delicious treats.

While based in Dunedin, Abby delivers within five mile radius of Dunedin, which includes much of Clearwater and surrounding communities. She is also able to meet within the downtown Dunedin area as an additional option.

So, what gave Abby her idea? “I was just trying to think of something I hadn’t seen done before, she says. “There are lots of dog bakeries and specialty shops popping up, but I hadn’t ever seen a dog charcuterie. I’ve noticed charcuterie for people has become incredibly popular and I also love that. I was just playing with my own dog’s food and having fun making her cute little plates, posted a couple pictures on my personal social media accounts and a few friends were like, “You should sell these!”

“I make orders as I receive them. Usually, people order a few days in advance, I’ve had customers place orders for a few weeks or couple months out because of a special occasion such as their dog’s birthday or adoption day. But I make the Pupnic Basket the day of, right before delivery, so everything is fresh. Typically, I just ask for at least a 24-hour notice for an order if it’s just a couple of boxes. For larger orders, I need a few days so I can be sure I have enough product.”

“As of right now, the only containers are pastry boxes. A small size measures 6” x 6” x 3” and a large is 8” x 5 3/4” x 2 ½”. I do delivery myself. At this time I am delivering about a 5 mile radius from Dunedin. I live right on the border of Clearwater and Dunedin. I’ve had people order from as far as New Port Richey and we find a meeting place within my delivery range and meet up. Customers can also pre-order and pick up at events and vendor markets where I’ll be.

“At this time, I am not mailing. I include fresh fruit like strawberries and blueberries, or vegetable-carrots and frozen green beans, which are the most popular. I also personalize each basket with the dog’s name. Typically, I use cheese for that. but I’m experimenting with other doggy-safe “people food.” For this reason, I am not shipping.

“I also do not have the Pupnic Baskets in any stores. However, neither shipping nor store sales is not totally out of the question, I’m always open to expanding and exploring new ways to get Pupnic Baskets to the puppies.

“On my order form, there is a section where customers can let me know of any allergies or food restrictions their dogs may have.

“The best way to contact me is by email pupnicbaskets@gmail.com, or send me a message on Instagram or on Facebook. If a customer has questions they’d like to ask before placing an order, they can contact me any of those ways.”

I know I’m going to be getting a Pupnic Basket for my dog, Amber, very soon!
