Grocery Run Turns Into $1M Jackpot for Cecil Shopper

ELKTON, Maryland. According to Maryland Lottery officials on Friday, a Cecil County lady who won a $1 million top prize on a Lucky 777 scratch-off ticket left a nearby grocery store with much more than just a shopping bag.

The winning ticket was bought at Acme Markets, which is situated in Elkton at 101 Big Elk Mall. The winner dropped by the store’s lottery vending machine before she went shopping. She scratched her ticket there and saw a black seven sign, which revealed the million-dollar prize.

After learning of the award, the winner—who wished to remain anonymous—called her husband right away and kept her composure in the store to avoid calling attention to herself. She informed lottery authorities that she intends to travel, renovate her house, and contribute a portion of her money.

Selling the ticket will earn Acme Markets a $1,000 bonus.

Top rewards are still available at Lucky 777.

On May 19, the Lucky 777 scratch-off game went live with eight $50,000 prizes and six $1 million top prizes. There are still four $1 million prizes, six $50,000 prizes, and hundreds of thousands of smaller rewards, from $20 to $10,000, according to Lottery officials.

In accordance with lottery protocols, winners are reminded to sign their tickets right away and receive their winnings.

No other information regarding the winner’s plans has been made public by the Maryland Lottery.
