Authorities apprehended a woman after she escaped from the Gulfport Police station early Thursday and dragged a police officer with her automobile, according to a news release from the Gulfport Police.
An assault on a law enforcement official is one of the charges against 39-year-old Daronda Monique Jackson.
A 2:53 a.m. Thursday visit by Jackson to the police station “to discuss a hit-and-run incident” allegedly sparked the conflict, according to authorities.
According to Gulfport Police, an officer informed her that she was being held on numerous misdemeanor warrants filed by the Jackson authorities.
Jackson allegedly informed the officer that she had to inform a minor who remained in the vehicle, according to the police. Instead, the cop chose to tell the minor. Despite the officer’s demands that she get out of the automobile, Jackson allegedly exited the station and got behind the wheel.
Jackson allegedly threatened to put the vehicle in reverse after telling the officer she wouldn’t start it. According to the news release, she pulled the officer, then hit a sign before fleeing.
After a short pursuit with Biloxi Police, Jackson was apprehended, and the officer was reported to have escaped.
She is currently being held on a $250,000 bail at the Harrison County prison.
