Hackensack police pursuit of fleeing juvenile leads to injuries, investigation ongoing




New Jersey’s Hackensack.following attempting to scale a fence and sustaining minor injuries, a young person who was escaping police following a reported altercation at a 7-Eleven on Essex Street was captured Sunday night, according to authorities.

On December 8, Hackensack police responded to a possible weapon-related altercation at the convenience shop. After receiving a description of the individual, officers started looking about.

A person who fit the suspect’s description was found, but when police tried to apprehend him, he ran away. The young person got stuck while attempting to scale a fence during the pursuit and suffered minor injuries. After helping to remove him from the fence, officers took him into custody and offered him medical treatment, which he turned down. During the pursuit, one cop was also hurt.

Police concluded after more inquiry that the person had nothing to do with the 7-Eleven incident. After that, the young person was turned over to a family member. His flight’s causes are yet unknown, and the situation is still being investigated.

According to Hackensack officials, body-worn camera footage will be used as part of the investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, which will investigate the event. No other information was given because of the age of the person and the continuing nature of the investigation.
