An AKRON, OHA man was given a minimum term of nine years in jail for shooting a stranger in the face after a fight over potato chips at an Ohiostrip club. The victim was severely injured in the strange and violent episode that took place at Lusty Adventure in Akron, but he survived the assault.
The Attack at Lusty Adventure Strip Club
Around 9 p.m. on November 28, 2023, Melvin Wright Jr., 43, went up to a 31-year-old male in Akron’s strip club Lusty Adventure and requested some of his potato chips. Wright reacted violently when the victim refused to divulge. After the victim refused, Wright shot him in the face and followed him outside to his car.
The victim managed to drive himself to Summa Health Akron City Hospital despite not knowing Wright. He survived the shooting after receiving treatment for six days.
Arrest and Legal Consequences
When officers saw Wright getting on a Metro bus at the Transit Center on South Broadway Street the next day, they arrested him. A firearm discovered on him during his detention was also confiscated by the officers.
Wright entered a guilty plea to charges of unlawful firearm possession, attempted murder, and possessing a weapon while disabled. He was sentenced to nine to twelve years in prison and will have to register as a violent offender every year for the ten years after his release.
Prosecutor s Statement
Speaking about the case, Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich stated that the absence of Melvin Wright from our streets has made Summit County safer. I am thankful that the victim of this crime is continuing his brave recovery because senseless violence has no place in Akron. The prosecutor’s comments emphasized the irrationality of the offense and the need of excluding such people from society.
Wright’s imprisonment puts an end to a very bizarre and violent crime in which a fight over a snack escalated into a potentially fatal altercation. The victim’s continued rehabilitation and survival serve as a sobering reminder of how hazardous and unpredictable violent crime can be.
