Fatal Shooting and Criminal Charges

In relation to the death of 41-year-old Andrea Broyld, Darryl Dion Nixon Jr., 41, is accused of second-degree murder. Broyld was shot ten times before Nixon locked himself in his apartment on Sunday, according to the allegations, which were submitted to the Goodhue County District Court on Tuesday.

The 1000 block of Putnam Avenue is where the incident happened. Nixon’s mother told authorities the couple had come to her house just before the shooting, according to the complaint. She stated they seemed to be in a nice mood and had come in to have a sweet potato pie.

According to reports, fifteen minutes later, Nixon called his mother in tears, telling her that Broyld had left.

Standoff With Police

Two 911 calls alerted law authorities, one from Nixon’s mother and the other from a woman who was described as crying and pleading for assistance. Nixon was at the door of the flat when the officers arrived, brandishing a semiautomatic pistol.

Nixon allegedly repeatedly urged cops, “Shoot me,” while defying orders to drop the firearm, according to the criminal complaint. He also mentioned that there was a deceased person.

The goal of the negotiations was to defuse the situation. They once asked Nixon to let them in so they could see how Broyld was doing. Nixon allegedly wailed and acknowledged during talks that Broyld was dead because I had shot her.

Three hours or so later, Nixon quietly turned himself in and was arrested.

Investigation and Mental Health Concerns

Police discovered Broyld’s body on the couch inside the residence. Ten gunshot wounds to her chest and abdomen were later discovered by the medical examiner.

Nixon’s mother disclosed to investigators that her son had experienced hallucinations and other mental health problems. She added that he has a lot of guns at his disposal. No motive for the killing has been disclosed at this time.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Broyld s death and the events leading up to the standoff. Nixon is still being held on suspicion of second-degree murder.
