Deputy Airlifted to Hospital Following Rollover Accident with Allegedly Drunk Driver

A sheriff’s deputy in Florida was taken to the hospital following a rollover accident with a suspected intoxicated driver on Saturday night.

Deputy Ivan Clark of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a collision with his unmarked police vehicle around 10:30 p.m. local time while he was on his way to address a report of a reckless driver, approximately 26 miles south of Tampa, as stated in a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Clark was thrown from the vehicle as it flipped over multiple times.

Clark was transported via air to Tampa General Hospital, where he remained in stable condition as of Sunday morning, according to the statement.

Authorities in Florida have taken Uriel Garcia Nestor, 25, into custody, with claims that he registered a blood alcohol level of 0.121.

Nestor faced multiple charges, including driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury, driving under the influence causing property damage, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license while inflicting serious bodily harm, as stated in the release.

“This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers impaired drivers pose to our community,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in the press release. “It is deeply disappointing that someone would make the reckless decision to drive impaired, not only endangering their own life but putting everyone else on the road at risk.
