Houston Mom Locked 12-year-old Outside Apartment after Argument; Arrested after Girl Reached Police for Help in Morning after Sleeping on Bench for Whole Night

A mother from Texas is currently under investigation for allegedly locking her 12-year-old daughter out of their apartment, thereby compelling her to sleep on a settee within the complex.

The girl reported the incident to a Houston Police Department substation shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday. According to the police, she informed them that her mother evicted her from the apartment on Saturday after they had a disagreement regarding one of her acquaintances visiting the premises.

According to law enforcement, the girl attempted to reenter the residence on numerous occasions; however, her mother declined to unlock the door. The child eventually fell asleep on a bench at the apartment complex, and upon awakening in the morning, proceeded to the police substation.

Police officers conducted an investigation at the apartment complex located at 7600 E. Houston Road. Georgette Albert, the girl’s mother, was located and interviewed. She asserted that the minor had fled. Police arrested her on Monday on a charge of endangering a child after they determined that this was untrue.

After the police contacted Child Protective Services, the girl was taken into custody and subsequently released to a family member.

Albert was taken to the Harris County Jail, where she has since posted a $5,000 bond. According to her financial affidavit, she is employed as a part-time educator in the Houston Independent School District. It indicated that she had been employed there for approximately one year. According to the documents, she is from Louisiana.

In an email to Law&Crime, the school system disclosed that Albert is not a full-time teacher, but rather a contract employee who works part-time for the district. The school system is currently in the process of terminating this contract.
