Houston, TX — Scattered thunderstorms and high humidity will mark the start of the new work week for the Houston area, with storm chances Monday giving way to a hotter and sunnier stretch in the days ahead.
Afternoon Storms Likely on Monday
According to FOX 26 Houston, conditions are ripe for afternoon downpours and thunderstorms on Monday, driven by warm surface air and ample moisture in the atmosphere.
A north-to-south jetstream currently crossing over Southeast Texas could contribute to stronger storm development, although forecast models remain uncertain about their severity.
Heat Builds Through the Week
By Tuesday, the stormy pattern will give way to a stretch of hotter weather, with daytime highs climbing into the upper 90s across the metro. While isolated thunderstorms may still pop up in the late afternoon, sunshine and humidity will dominate the forecast through the end of the week.
Residents should prepare for heat indices approaching or exceeding 100°F, especially during peak afternoon hours. Those spending time outdoors are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit physical activity during midday, and wear light clothing.
Tropical Activity Increasing in the Atlantic
Meanwhile, meteorologists are also keeping an eye on the tropics, where activity is beginning to pick up. The National Hurricane Center has flagged an area of low pressure a few hundred miles east of North Carolina as Invest 95L, which has potential to become the next named storm.
Two other tropical waves are also being monitored in the Atlantic Basin, though current projections show no immediate threat to the Texas Gulf Coast.
Still, with the peak of hurricane season approaching in late August and September, forecasters warn Gulf residents to remain alert and review preparedness plans.
Houston Residents Urged to Stay Weather-Aware
As storm chances linger and heat intensifies, city officials are reminding Houstonians to keep close tabs on real-time alerts, particularly during the afternoon commute or outdoor events.
