As the state was battered by heavy snow, Shanya Bennett and Keon Mitchell were rushing through Dothan, Alabama, in a desperate attempt to get to a hospital. Their journey to safety was halted when areas of the area were covered with up to 11 inches of snow.
Bennett knew she couldn’t wait any longer as her contractions got worse. When their baby boy, Dallas, unexpectedly entered the world, they parked in the closed Krispy Kreme lot, which is only a mile from Flowers Hospital.
The situation rapidly worsened while Bennett sat in the car talking to 911. While they were stopped at a red light, she felt the baby’s head. She kept pushing as she was parked outside the doughnut shop.
Dallas, born in the most unlikely of settings, was already in her arms when paramedics arrived.

The Krispy Kreme crew was excited to celebrate the momentous occasion when they learned of the news. The store manager first volunteered to throw Dallas’ first birthday party in January 2026 and promised the family free doughnuts for a year.
