KITSAP COUNTY, WA A head-on collision on Viking Way on Christmas Day in Poulsbo, Washington, has resulted in one fatality and two significant injuries. When officials responded to a wreck that rocked the community, what should have been a calm holiday morning swiftly descended into turmoil.
The Crash and Its Aftermath
The collision happened just south of Poulsbo on December 25, 2024, at approximately 9:02 a.m. in the 16200 block of Viking Way NW. According to authorities, a male driver of a 2008 Suzuki was trying to pass another car while the car was moving south. But after passing the vehicle, the driver failed to get back into his lane and struck a northbound 2019 Toyota Highlander head-on.
At the scene, the Suzuki driver was declared dead. The Toyota’s male driver and female passenger were sent to a local hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
Emergency Response and Road Closures
With the help of North Kitsap Fire & Rescue and the Poulsbo Police Department, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene promptly.
Hours were spent clearing the debris and conducting an investigation by emergency personnel. In order to collect evidence and carry out their investigation, Viking Way was closed for a number of hours.
Investigation Continues
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is still looking into what caused the collision. Although no formal judgments have been made, detectives have identified speeding and symptoms of impairment as potential causes. Investigators are still working to put together what happened before the deadly crash.
