WINDOM, MNA When a 30-year-old father of two was tragically stabbed after a heated dispute, a New Year’s Eve gathering at a pub in Windom, Minnesota, turned deadly. Both his family and the community were shocked when Benjamin Matter, a loving father, was killed in the attack that also injured another man.
The Violent Incident at Phat Pheasant Pub
Police were summoned to the Phat Pheasant Pub on December 31st, shortly before midnight, following a vicious stabbing. Stabbing wounds were discovered on Matter and a 31-year-old guy. Matter passed away from his wounds not long after the two victims were taken to the hospital. The attack did not harm the second victim.
In relation to the stabbing, a 26-year-old San Diego resident named No Name Given Happy—yes, that is his real name—was taken into custody and prosecuted.
The criminal complaint states that the suspect’s California commercial driver’s license allowed authorities to identify him. Investigators were able to identify the culprit thanks to the license, which stated Happy as his last name and No Name Given as his first name. In California only.
Happy was brought into prison after receiving treatment at a nearby hospital for minor injuries, according to the authorities. Police have not yet released all the information pertaining to the altercation, and the investigation into the event is still underway.
New Details Emerge on the Stabbing
A criminal complaint claims that the circumstances leading up to the stabbing happened quickly. Investigators learned from witnesses that Happy had been playing pool in the bar before to the escalation of hostilities. A bartender reportedly escorted the suspect out of the establishment after he made threatening remarks, including mentioning drawing a pistol.
But after leaving, Happy came back to the pub brandishing a knife—a weapon with a blade that was between six and eight inches long. Witnesses reported a scuffle that culminated in Matter being fatally stabbed as the situation worsened.
Others tried to hold Happy back, but the harm was already done. Happy was further linked to the crime when investigators discovered a knife sheath inside a semi-truck parked at the scene.
Two counts of second-degree murder, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, and threats of violence are among the allegations against Happy.
