Field of Heat, On Sunday, a driver was recovered from a partially submerged car in Wheatfield, New York, thanks to a spectacular rescue. Authorities received a 911 call shortly before 2:00 p.m. informing them of a car that had fallen into a ditch and was filling with water while the driver fought to get out. The scene was in disarray by the time assistance arrived, but deputies were able to move quickly.
Deputies Rush to the Scene in Wheatfield
According to a 911 call, a passerby was attempting to smash a window to extricate the driver from the overturned car that was partially submerged in a ditch. The 2009 Honda Fit’s driver, subsequently identified as 40-year-old Robert Prange, was the only one inside and became trapped when the cabin began to fill with water.
Footage from dashboard and body-worn cameras, which captured the tense minutes before the rescue, was made public by the sheriff’s office. When Deputies Virk and Kennedy got there, they discovered Prange stuck inside the car, which was in the ditch upside down.
A Daring Rescue Operation
Deputies Virk and Kennedy went straight into the ditch to help. They were able to break the rear passenger side window and open the door with the help of the rescue tools provided by the department. The deputies swiftly dragged Prange to safety as water began to fill the cabin.

The sheriff’s office said it is grateful to Deputies Kennedy and Virk for their efforts in saving the driver, expressing appreciation for the acts of both deputies and bystanders. Additionally, a big thank you to all of the bystanders who came to help.
