An emotional reunion results from a courageous man risking his life to save a suffering dog by plunging into a chilly Vermont river.#Berlin, Vermont, #News, #Rescue
VTI BERLINWhen Chris MacRitchie witnessed a dog struggling to survive in a frigid Vermont river, he acted without hesitation in a truly amazing display of bravery. Determined to save the defenseless animal, he dove headfirst into the freezing waters. The result was a spectacular rescue that took place on Friday afternoon in Berlin. His kid recorded the video, which swiftly went viral on social media and won over viewers’ hearts globally.
The Start of a Life-Saving Decision
Innocently enough, the series of events started. Unaware of the life-or-death scenario they would soon find themselves in, MacRitchie and his kid were in a Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru. Upon arriving near the Winooski River embankment, MacRitchie immediately recognized the suffering dog and knew what he had to do.
According to MacRitchie, it was similar to one of those times in life when everyone must make a decision.
Since I own two dogs and would hope that someone would save them if they were in that situation, I felt compelled to at least attempt to pull this dog out of the river.
A Daring Rescue in Frigid Waters
In the video, MacRitchie can be seen cautiously approaching the river while wearing a T-shirt, sweatpants, and boots. He wades across the icy water toward the dog, who is stranded on the opposite side of a frozen rivulet, without flinching as his wife can be heard imploring him to continue.
He gasps in coldness as he approaches the dog, but his will never wavers. After rescuing the puppy from the water, MacRitchie hands it to his wife, who promptly wraps the shivering creature in a sweater.
Facing the Unknown
Although it was frigid outside, MacRitchie stated that he was more worried about the depth of the river than the cold water.
Avoiding getting into trouble was the one significant worry I had about it. It was the profundity. He remarked, “I didn’t know if it was two feet deep or twenty feet deep.”
I was genuinely relieved when I finally made it and stood up, even though it was only waist-high. At the time, I thought to myself, “Okay, this isn’t that bad.” Although it’s cold, I think this is a pretty manageable scenario.
A Heartfelt Reunion
Following the rescue, MacRitchie contacted Morgan Cerasoli, the dog’s owner, whose number was listed on the dog’s tag. Since Thursday, Cerasoli had been frantically looking for her 7-year-old mutt, Arizona.
“Oh, my God, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you,” I said to him as I began to cry. As she sat next to Arizona, who was largely healed, Cerasoli remarked, “Let me make a U-turn and I’m coming right back,” in an emotional voice.
Cerasoli started crying again as she watched the rescue video.
It is admirable, courageous, and selfless. “It’s everything I believe we were meant to be,” she remarked.
It seems really uncommon these days at times.
The Power of a Single Act of Kindness
What started out as a typical day became a heroic act that will never be forgotten, serving as a reminder to all of the amazing power of one person’s deeds. Those who saw the event in person and online have been deeply impacted by MacRitchie’s selflessness.
