Emergency Response and Rescue Operation

The Woodstock Fire Rescue District received a distress call around 3 p.m. on Sunday, alerting them to a water rescue on the 3200 block of N. Route 47 in unincorporated Woodstock. Responders arrived within minutes to find a man pinned under a tractor alongside a collapsed bridge.

Officials noted he had likely been trapped for over 30 minutes before their arrival, adding urgency to the situation as they found him conscious but suffering from severe hypothermia and other serious injuries.

With precision and speed, firefighters lifted the tractor and quickly freed the man, who was then transferred to a waiting ambulance. Emergency personnel had set up a landing zone at nearby Northwood Middle School, where the man was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for advanced treatment.

Managing Environmental Hazards

The rescue effort also brought environmental concerns. The fire department initiated a minor HazMat response due to fluids leaking from the tractor. Absorbent materials were used to contain any fuel or other pollutants, preventing them from dispersing into the creek.

The tractor was removed from the water, and the area was cleared by around 6 p.m., ensuring the scene was safe.
