Around 4 a.m. on the morning of December 6, police received a report regarding a woman who had been found seriously hurt in the back of a Ford F-150. Inside the car, officers found Sofia Rose O. Hotto, a 26-year-old Minneapolis resident. She died of a gunshot wound to the back of her skull after being taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The 29-year-old Luke Joshua Cain saw individuals reportedly stealing from his van earlier that morning when it was parked outside his Richfield house on 5th Avenue South. When Cain stepped outside to confront the people, they swiftly drove away in the grey pickup truck. Cain fired at least two rounds at the car as the suspects sped away.
