VENETA, OR – A horrifying collision in the early hours of Wednesday night left an Oregon driver stranded at the base of a steep embankment and seriously injured. According to police, rescuers put in countless hours navigating difficult terrain and thick forest to get the driver to safety.

Rescue Operation on Wolf Creek Road

According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the Search and Rescue crew arrived at the area about south of Veneta, close to the top of Wolf Creek Road. The car had tumbled down the embankment and landed in a secluded, unkempt spot.

The truck was encircled by dense vegetation in the sheriff’s office photos, which made the rescue attempt logistically and physically difficult.

In order to get to the injured motorist, rescue crews had to use specific equipment and methods.

According to the sheriff’s office, a rope rescue system was set up by volunteers from Eugene Mountain Rescue (EMR), a division of the Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue that handles high angle issues.

They lifted the patient to the road safely using a wheeled litter.

The degree of the driver’s injuries and their present state were not disclosed by officials.
