GREENVILLE, SCA When a truck driver reported that there was a bomb inside his car, a routine traffic stop on South Carolina’s I-85 escalated into a full-fledged emergency response. All lanes on the freeway were closed for many hours while law police looked into the dangerous scenario. It turned out that the incident, which seriously disrupted traffic, was a hoax.

The Incident on I-85

A South Carolina State Transport Police trooper pulled over a tractor-trailer near mile marker 44 on I-85 at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Thursday due to a missing license plate. The driver’s terrifying assertion during the stop was that the commercial vehicle contained an explosive device. Local officials responded to this claim right away.

The FBI, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office started looking into the bomb threat, which led to the closure of all six lanes of I-85. For several hours, the highway was closed as officials made sure there was no threat.

Investigation and Outcome

Even though the situation was urgent, the examination showed that the truck did not contain any explosives.

Traffic was eventually able to resume after the freeway was reopened at approximately 7:40 p.m. Even though the threat turned out to be untrue, the disruption the hoax generated prompted a tense and well-coordinated response from law police.

Charges Filed Against the Driver

Ahmad Jamal Khamees Alhendi, a 28-year-old resident of Oak Lawn, Illinois, was arrested and accused with a number of serious crimes. He may be an undocumented immigrant.
