COWLITZ COUNTY, WA

– On Halloween night in Longview, Washington, an 11-year-old boy sat in his room, immersed in a video game with earbuds in, oblivious to the brutal fight erupting between his parents just rooms away. It wasn’t until he finished playing that the boy stumbled onto a horrific scene: both of his parents, covered in blood, lying unresponsive on the kitchen floor.

Halloween Tragedy Unfolds Behind Closed Doors

Investigators say the parents, identified as 38-year-old Juan Antonio Alvarado Saenz and 39-year-old Cecilia Robles Ochoa, died in a violent struggle that involved both a knife and a gun.

According to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, Alvarado Saenz suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest, while Robles Ochoa was both stabbed and shot. The tragedy unfolded just 50 miles east of Portland, Oregon, on the Washington side of the Columbia River.

Evidence Points to Tragic Family Conflict

Detectives arrived on the scene after the boy’s desperate 911 call. Emergency responders attempted to revive the couple, but both were declared dead at the scene.

Officials reported that Alvarado Saenz and Robles Ochoa “had relationship issues and intended to separate,” though they have not determined which of the two was the primary aggressor in the fatal fight.

Authorities later found a gun and a knife at the scene, noting that the firearm had been stolen from Alvarado Saenz’s workplace. The employer was unaware of the weapon’s absence until after the incident, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

Community Support and a Prayer for Healing

This tragic incident leaves a young boy without his parents and a community shaken by the violent outcome of a relationship that had, according to officials, been on the rocks. As investigators work to close this heartbreaking case, many will be left wondering how something so grim could unfold so close to home—while an innocent child sat only feet away, lost in a world of games.

This unimaginable loss leaves a young boy to grapple with a world forever changed. As the community mourns, they come together to offer prayers and comfort for a child who has seen more than anyone should. In this time of sorrow, we remember the words of Isaiah 41:10,

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
