Illinois Facility Caretaker Gets 25 Years for Raping, Impregnating Severely Disabled Woman

Prosecutors say a caretaker who sexually abused and impregnated a severely crippled woman who resides at the Illinois facility where he worked will serve the next 25 years in prison.

Between August 1, 2023, and September 5, 2023, Isaiah Fields, 23, exploited the 43-year-old woman with Rett Syndrome, which results in her having infant-like cognitive problems, within the Marklund Hyde Center, according to the Daily Herald.

The sicko allegedly tried to apologize to the victim’s family before his sentence Friday in Kane County court, saying, “There is no reason or set of experiences that could justify hurting anyone in any way.”

The newspaper reported that prosecutors pointed out that the woman, who has been residing at the center for disabled persons since she was in her early 20s, is incapable of reading, writing, speaking, or even standing, and she is also unable to give her consent for sex.

Only after the woman was examined at a hospital for liver and gallbladder problems and physicians found out she was at least 31 weeks pregnant did the stomach-churning crime come to light, according to the newspaper.

The woman had preeclampsia, and the following day she gave birth to a boy. After 11 weeks in a neonatal intensive care facility, the baby passed away.

Prosecutor Matthew Rodgers stated during the sentencing that “[the baby] didn’t live long in this world.” “But he did his mother justice just by entering this world.”

According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, Fields was charged when his DNA was matched that of the infant.

In January, he entered a guilty plea to aggravated criminal sexual assault. In addition to his jail sentence, Fields will be labeled a sex offender upon his release.

According to a statement released by Rodgers, “Isaiah Fields preyed on this vulnerable victim because of her physical and intellectual disability.”

“While no sentence can undo the harm caused, today’s outcome ensures that the defendant will be held accountable for his despicable act. It also represents justice for the victim, her family and the Marklund community.”
