Illinois man arrested in I-83 shooting, linked to additional incidents in Pennsylvania

ELKTON, Maryland.A 28-year-old man from Illinois has been taken into custody by Maryland State Police in relation to a shooting that occurred late Wednesday night on Interstate 83 in Baltimore County, leaving a family’s car covered in bullets but without any injuries.

Christian Ramos, a resident of Aurora, Illinois, is the suspect in three counts of attempted first-degree murder and additional offenses. He may possibly be linked, according to authorities, to three other shootings that happened along Pennsylvania’s I-83 later that same evening.

On June 18, troopers from the Golden Ring Barrack responded to a 911 call of shooting on southbound I-83 close to Shawan Road just before midnight. The caller said that his Toyota Prius, which was transporting three people, including a two-year-old toddler, had been shot at. There were no reported injuries.

As part of the Maryland State Police Highway Gun Crimes Initiative, a task force aimed at reducing gun-related violence on state highways, Ramos was arrested.

The suspect is charged in several jurisdictions.

Ramos is being jailed pending his initial appearance in the Cecil County District Court on counts of attempted murder as well as a separate firearm violation in Cecil County.

To find out if Ramos is behind the other shootings that were reported along I-83 that same evening, investigators from Maryland and Pennsylvania are still working together.

The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities have not revealed a potential motive for the shootings.
