Illinois Tollway Scam Alert: Fake Unpaid Toll Messages Target Drivers

Homewood, Illinois Drivers in Illinois are being targeted by a new phishing scam that sends phony texts requesting toll payments. The communications push recipients to pay right away and make fraudulent claims that they owe unpaid tolls.

The Village of Homewood Police Department reports that scammers use a fictitious unpaid toll amount in their texts. There is a fake link in the message that takes users to a phishing website. It has the potential to steal financial or personal data if clicked.

Authorities advise drivers not to provide private information or click on dubious links. Alternatively, visit the official Illinois Tollway website to check your account directly, or on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., call customer care at 1-800-824-7277.
