COLUMBUS, Ind. – A 19-year-old from Indianapolis is facing an arrest warrant after police say he pulled a gun on a Target employee during a theft involving more than $1,000 in Lego sets at a Columbus store.
According to court documents filed in Bartholomew County, the suspect, Isaac Armstrong, has been charged with felony armed robbery following the incident on November 4, 2024.
What Happened
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Columbus police responded to an armed robbery at the Target on 1865 N. National Road. Authorities say Armstrong loaded a cart with $1,059.94 worth of Lego sets and attempted to leave without paying. When a Target Asset Protection employee confronted him, Armstrong allegedly pulled a firearm from his waistband and pointed it sideways.
A witness confirmed the incident, saying the suspect—dressed in a purple hoodie, black pants, and tan shoes—was seen moving quickly toward the exit. After bumping into the witness, Armstrong reportedly told her to “watch where she was going” before pointing the gun at the employee.
Security footage captured Armstrong selecting Lego items, bypassing checkout, and confronting the employee.
The Getaway and Chase
Armstrong was seen getting into the rear passenger side of a silver Mazda parked outside the store. A former Columbus police officer, who happened to be shopping inside, followed the car north on US 31 and contacted 911.
As police attempted to stop the Mazda near Interstate 65, the vehicle sped away, reaching speeds up to 100 mph. During the chase, Armstrong reportedly jumped from the vehicle and landed in a roadside ditch. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment after reporting pain from the fall.
Police did not initially identify Armstrong as the suspect in the Target robbery at that time.
Ongoing Investigation
The Mazda, found the next day at an apartment complex near E. Washington Street in Indianapolis, was confirmed to have been stolen from Greenwood in October 2024. Investigators are still working to identify the driver who led police on the chase.
An arrest warrant for Armstrong was officially issued on July 31, 2025, by Bartholomew Superior Court 1.
