Indianapolis Man Arrested after SWAT Standoff Following East Side Shooting

Indianapolis, IN — A 31-year-old man was arrested after an hours-long SWAT standoff on the near east side of Indianapolis, following a shooting that left a woman injured Saturday night.

Shooting Reported on East Washington Street

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers were called around 8:30 p.m. to the 3100 block of East Washington Street after reports of a person being shot.

Responding officers found an adult female with an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, police confirmed.

Suspect Barricades Himself, SWAT Responds

Shortly after the shooting, the alleged gunman barricaded himself inside a home, refusing to come out. IMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was deployed to the scene.

The standoff lasted several hours, ending just after 12:30 a.m., when officers made entry and safely took the suspect into custody. No additional injuries occurred during the standoff.

Suspect Identified, Faces Felony Charge

The suspect, identified as Jeremie Raymond Ferguson, 31, now faces a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, classified as a Level 6 felony under Indiana law.

Authorities have not yet released a motive, and the case remains under active investigation.
