by Jackson, New Jersey Candidates will find it simpler to compete in municipal elections, including as the November race for a council seat in Jackson, according to a new law signed by Governor Phil Murphy.
Candidates in towns with a population of more than 50,000 will only need to gather 100 signatures to be included on the ballot for primary, general, nonpartisan municipal, and school elections under the recently passed A-5117, which was approved by the State Senate and State Assembly.
The statute mandates that the Secretary of State issue specific nominating petition forms by January 1 of every year, with effect from January 1, 2025.
The township clerk’s office in Jackson is where candidates for the council seat election can pick up petitions. The goal of the modification is to streamline the procedure and promote greater voter turnout in local elections.
