Judge Orders Second Toms River Murder Suspect to be Held in Prison During Trial




New Jersey’s Toms River.Judges this week decided to keep two Lakewood men who are suspected of killing Rondell Proctor in 2010 in custody at the Ocean County Jail pending trial.

After separate detention hearings, Jerron Evans, 41, and Maurice Cole, 36, were both ordered to stay in custody. Evans’ hearing before the Honorable Pamela M. Snyder, J.S.C., was held on December 9, 2024, while Cole’s hearing before the Honorable Dina M. Vicari, J.S.C., was held on December 10.

In relation to Proctor’s death, which took place in Toms River on May 27, 2010, both men are accused of murder. On December 3, 2024, Evans and Cole were taken into custody by authorities after the cold case was reopened.

During the detention hearings, the state was represented by Senior Assistant Prosecutor Kaitlyn Burke. Since the case is still being investigated, no information about the murder or the evidence that led to the suspects’ recent arrests has been made public.
