K9 Helps Staafford Cops Capture Home Burglar


North Stafford, VA – A suspect involved in a break and entering incident in North Stafford was apprehended by a K-9 unit. The incident occurred early on Thursday, where deputies responded to Paradise Court following reports of potential domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival around 12:06 a.m., Deputy R.T. Philippsen heard a scream coming from a trailer. Observing through a window, he saw a female in distress alongside a male who then fled through a window into the woods. Additional deputies, including Deputy M.N. Sayegh, established a perimeter and contacted the victim, who revealed the assailant was an intoxicated family member who had unlawfully entered her home.

Deputy R.L. Hubbard launched a drone, locating a heat signature matching the suspect’s location. With assistance from Deputy S.T. Myers and his K-9 partner, Gunner, the suspect hiding in the woods was tracked and apprehended. Upon confrontation, the suspect attempted to flee before being apprehended by the K-9 unit.

Mario Ortiz-Escobar, aged 42 from Silver Spring, was treated for a K-9 bite and charged with several offenses, including breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, among others.
