Tatiana Denize Silva dos Anjos, 43, and Maida Berenice Flores da Silva, 58, died of heart arrest shortly after consuming a traditional Bolo de Natal, a well-known Brazilian Christmas cake, during the family celebration on Monday in Torres, Brazil.
Neuza Denize Silva dos Anjos, 65, was reported deceased on Christmas Eve, just a few days prior. The local hospital personnel was quick to link the cake to the deaths, and her cause of death was attributed to shock after probable poisoning.
Zeli Terezinha Silva dos Anjos, 61, who hosted the party and cooked the cake with her sister, also consumed two slices but was taken to the hospital right away and is still in critical condition. A 10-year-old kid is among several other family members who are presently in the hospital.
