Lake County, IL: Three Dead in Zion House Fire; Investigation Underway



Zion, IL – A devastating house fire claimed three lives late Monday in the 2900 block of Enoch Avenue in Zion. Firefighters arrived just before midnight to find the two-story home engulfed in flames. Neighbors reported five people possibly inside, triggering an immediate search and rescue operation.

According to Battalion Chief Rocco Campanella, arriving crews battled intense flames and smoke in multiple areas of the building. Firefighters quickly entered the residence and located three victims, who were brought to paramedics but tragically did not survive. Another resident was transported to Vista East Medical Center with smoke inhalation.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated, bringing additional fire departments to assist. Firefighters spent nearly four hours extinguishing flames hidden in structural voids.

The Zion Fire Department expressed condolences to the families affected and reminded residents to ensure smoke alarms function properly on all levels of their homes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with damages estimated at $350,000.
