WELSH, LouisianaA startling fight in LouisianaAfter a fierce struggle on Friday night, a sheriff’s officer lost his own Taser, and a suspect was taken into custody. Patrol Sergeant Josh Clement was fighting for his life against the very weapon he had been taught to use after responding to help a man who was strolling down a roadway.
Incident Details
The altercation took place on Highway 99, south of Highway 102, close to Welsh, Louisiana, at approximately 7:37 p.m. on Friday.
While monitoring the area in the dark and cold, Sgt. Josh Clement noticed a man strolling along the roadway. The deputy turned around to provide assistance, worried about the man’s health. But the conflict swiftly turned into a physical altercation.
During the scuffle, Sgt. Clement fired his firearm, according to the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office. The officer-involved shooting was investigated by Louisiana State Police.
They subsequently verified that the defendant, Mark Buller, 44, was able to seize the deputy’s Taser and use it against him during the confrontation.
The Suspect s Actions and Arrest
Buller did more than just take the deputy’s pistol; he was later discovered to have an active warrant for failure to register as a sexual offender and a charge of simple burglary. Before the deputy fired his service weapon, the suspect allegedly tried to steal the patrol car.
Due to their injuries, Sgt. Clement and Buller were taken to local hospitals. Both received treatment before being set free.
After being taken into custody, Buller was registered at the Jefferson Davis Parish Correctional Center. He is currently facing a number of serious allegations, such as attempted first-degree murder, attempted disarming of a police officer, aggravated second-degree battery, attempting to steal a motor vehicle, and resisting an officer with force or violence.
The incident is still under active review and is being investigated by Louisiana State Police.
